Hardly any other European clinic group can look back on so many years of experience: In 1984, Prof. Herbert Zech had founded Austria’s first private hospital for In-Vitro-Fertilization in Bregenz, the parent site of the Prof. Zech group. Here, the first Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) was performed in 1993. This was followed by culturing embryos up to the blastocyst stage for the first time (1998) in Austria, the first vitrification (1998) as well as the first “Intra-Cytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI)” (2007) performed in this country.
Innovation through own research and development are of primordial importance to us. One example is “Vitrisafe”. This new technique enables us to freeze embryos at all stages of development and moreover, it allows to safely and efficiently cryopreserve unfertilized oocytes. This technique has been developed by Prof. Zech and his team and is used in the Ovita Centers, too. Many of today’s international standards are based on the work that was done by these pioneers in Bregenz.
